I.From Law School to Brazoria County
Tom Selleck earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminology from Florida State University and his Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law. With his education complete, he made his way to Brazoria County — the place he would build his career, his practice, and his family's life.
II.Assistant District Attorney
In 1986, Tom began serving as a Brazoria County Assistant District Attorney. Over nearly nine years as a prosecutor, he tried cases on behalf of the people of Brazoria County — and from 1989 to 1995 served in the Major Offender Unit, prosecuting repeat and violent offenders.
III.25 Years in Private Practice
In 1995, Tom entered private legal practice, where he spent 25 years handling criminal and civil litigation and building deep trial experience on both sides of the docket. That quarter-century in practice gave him a rare perspective: a prosecutor's discipline paired with a trial lawyer's command of the courtroom.
IV.Return to Public Service
In 2020, Tom returned to public service when Governor Greg Abbott appointed him Brazoria County Criminal District Attorney. The appointment became effective October 1, 2020. In 2023, he began his elected term as Criminal District Attorney, continuing to lead the office where his career began.
V.Family & Community
Tom and his wife Debbie have made their home in Angleton, where they raised their family — and are now blessed with six grandchildren — and remain active in the life of the community. Governor Abbott's appointment announcement documents Tom's service with the Angleton Area Emergency Medical Corps, the Women's Center of Brazoria County, and the Brazoria County Fair Association.
